Current Practice
This page is a bit of an experiment, to trial a gallery of images from my seasonal and incidental practice, work that does not have an exhibition as its reason for coming into being
Christmas carols mural...In the December of 2013 our local country community held its third Christmas Carols evening, an outdoor event attended by a crowd of people of diverse faith and a wide range of ages. As a focus for the evening I prepared a Nativity mural 1.2 m high and 2.4 m wide. Painted in acrylic on masonite board, it portrayed the Holy Family in a shearing shed, with the baby in a box filled with sheep's fleece, watched over by (amongst other things) a Border Collie sheepdog. On the night of the Carols a number of children present contributed to the painting. ....on the right is a photograph taken on the Carols evening; and below is one taken at my studio, with the mural underway - and the sheepdog posing! |
Dance Meditation
In early 2019 I began holding dance meditation sessions in local venues, as an extension of my art practice. These involve facilitated creative movement, each session of one to one-and-a-half hours containing a distinct focus - for instance, the idea of water or of a journey. The philosophy behind them is wholistic; woven into about three quarters of an hour of rhythmic movement is music, brief readings from sacred texts, and periods of mindfulness. Their purpose is to assist participants to pursue their deepest purpose in life.
We have a Christ-centred approach, and so to benefit from and enjoy dance meditation a person does not need to have a particular spiritual path - you can come with whatever interests and dreams are unique to yourself. Likewise, dance experience is not a requirement for participation.
The sorts of benefits that are likely to come with this activity are an increase in calmness, a greater ease in the practice of meditation, improved energy, and various levels of healing.
I offer the sessions as a service principally to the members of the local community, although others may join in. There is no cost; rather, we gift our selves to each other when we do this as a group.
